Lighthouse Program
As we transition from one year to the next, we remain deeply committed to our shared cause.
At Lighthouse, our part is to provide youth development activities and a supportive environment for high school age youth at our evening drop in sites, Cedar Heights Middle School in Covington and the Birch Creek Youth Center. When the need is so great and there are so many opportunities to give back, it’s especially gratifying to be involved with an organization like Kent Youth and Family Services, whose mission is essential and whose work is strategic, cost-effective and results-driven.
Being able to make a difference in the lives of so many deserving children and teens is the greatest reward, but we have had (and will continue to have) the added joy of working with many named and un-named others that help us achieve our shared hope that one day all of Kent’s young people can live without fear and clearly see the path toward becoming effective citizens and leaders.
2010 Successes
- More than 400 hours of subject and academic help for kids and teens in the evening
- More than 430 youth learned team sportsmanship and stayed physically active through seasonal athletic offerings
- More than 200 youth successfully completed the Youth Relationship Curriculum, an evidence based, best practice class designed to address relationship violence and drug and alcohol prevention
- More than 400 middle and high school youth participated in leadership programs facilitated throughout the year.
Community Partnerships
Throughout our fifteen year history, The Lighthouse and Kent Youth and Family Services have leveraged the expertise and resources of other organizations to broaden our reach and deepen our impact. Our reputation for exceptional program delivery has, in turn, made us a sought after partner for organizations seeking to provide beneficial programs or services to children and teens. Lighthouse partnerships play a vital role in serving members, in leveraging resources for maximum impact, and in helping us develop effective citizens and leaders among the youth whom we serve.
